Asleep At The Wheel

This is a picture of State Treasurer Grady Patterson sleeping at a Budget and Control Board Meeting. In the background is former Sanford Communications Director Chris Drummond.

A picture says a thousand words, don't it?

Will, anyone (which I would imagine includes you) whether and octigenarian or not is in extreme danger of fallin asleep at a S.C. budget and control board meeting. As I was about to fall asleep at the meeting I am currently in, until I got a lap top in here with me at the break, I have to contest that sleeping observers can say just as much about the people being observed as the one watching/sleeping. Not to mention if T-rav has you on the payroll it could even wind up with your picture on FITS.

It was fair for dem Dems to raise this issue about Strom Thurmond, why now would it be horribly unfair for a man well past the age of manditory retirement?

Is is purely the fact that their ox is now being gored?

Psst someone wake up ol' seersucker too.

If he's not actually reading, and he really is asleep .... it just goes to show that he can do a helluva a job in his sleep!

It is so obvious what is really going on here...the Treasurer is re-indexing our unfunded liabilities whilst he frets over the upcoming scheduled dinner with Rainey, it's called multitasking.

Well this explains a lot. No wonder Grady totaled three or four state cars. One time he and Senator Drummond totaled a car by backing into a parked trailer. The last one wound up in the pond out at Columbia Metro Airport. I think that's when the State finally revoked his license. Now his wife drives the state-owned vehicle all around town. No telling how many wrecks she's had that we paid for. It's time to send Grady to the home.

yeah, yeah, yeah and ronald reagan fell asleep in cabinet meetings too. falling asleep is not the point, the point is that grady has done a pathetic job with our money. there is a big difference between the stroms and reagans bc they were both still getting the job done at advanced ages. grady is just not getting it done with our investments.

Is that really Grady's hand? Looks like the arm is actually coming from under the table. Could it be Trav Robertson's?

You think that's something? Thirty years ago, I went to an economic summit panel in which the Grade was one of the first speakers. Instead of going back to his office he stayed there on the dais and snoozed for an hour as all other speakers talked. He did so in front of hundreds. He had to have been in his early-mid fifties then. What a track record!

As a firm believer in the adage that "the people are never safe whenever congress is in session" I think that this picture illustrates a decent alternative. While it would be best that they not meet at all surely it can't be bad that when they meet they sleep. Whatever y'all do, don't wake him up!

So... the famous photo of Ronald Reagan dozing off during an audience with Pope John Paul II--I guess that's worth many thousands of words.

wow. the people who worked for reagan won the cold war and turned around an american economy in ruins.

the people who work for grady have run our state's investments into the ground.

nice comparison

Turned around an economy in ruins? Compare that with the greatest boom in history under Clinton. (who by the way left a budget surplus) You might want to check the stats for the national debt when Reagan took office and when he left. You might also want to look at income distribution during the same period--the rich got richer, the poor got poorer, and the middle class stagnated. And you're right, with the way George Bush II has screwed up foreign policy Reagan is looking better and better.
