And The Magic 8-Ball Sez ...

You may think we're political experts here at FITS. Unfortunately, given the demands placed on our time by various international modeling agencies, we don't spend nearly as much time thinking about politics as you might suspect.

In fact, to come up with our predictions for tomorrow's election, we busted out the trusty FITS Magic 8-Ball.

Here's what it told us ...

Mark Sanford 54%, Tommy Moore 46%

Andre Bauer 52%, Robert Barber 48%

Karen Floyd 52%, Jim Rex 48%

Thomas Ravenel 54%, Grady Patterson 46%

Richard Eckstrom 52%, Drew Theodore 48%

Will Folks (Write-in) 99.9%, Mark Hammond .05%, Whoever the Democrat Running for Secretary of State Is, .05%

Another election cycle in the Palmetto State, another Republican sweep. Nothing new here. Far more interesting is speculation over what Sanford will be able to accomplish in his next four years. Will he succumb to internecine personality clashes with state legislators, or will he actually accomplish something substantive?

Something like...say...a solution to the soaring costs of healthcare. Medicaid drains billions of dollars from SC taxpayers annually, comprising about 19% of the state budget in 2005. Rising costs have another side effect--about 16% of South Carolinians lack health insurance.

Will Sanford draw from his business acumen and conservative principles to address these problems? Or will he continue his headline-grabbing squabbles?

If he does the latter, the Republican Party in SC (much like the Republican majority in Congress) may go the way of the buffalo...as unimaginable as it now may seem.

What do you think, FITS? (and apologies for the long post)

Way too many people know who Eckstrom is. A Theodore hasn't won a state-wide race in the last sixteen years.

I am a lifelong Democrat. If we do as well as you predict I will be shocked. I see Karen Floyd getting 58+ % of the vote. Sanford, Eckstrom and Hammond should each top 55% I only see the Patterson and Bauer race as legit. The others have just been outspentand outworked. As you know in SC if a D and R run a equal campaign the result is 54-44 period. Any Dem. that gets over 45% today should be very proud.

Noting that Silence mispelled slimmest elsewhere, Ihave to semantically concur, that if Drew wins it will be by the slimiest of margins.
